Today, we gather to celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman, my Nonna. To me, and many others, she was more than just a grandmother - she was a mother figure, a guardian angel, and a shining example of unconditional love.
Born from the rich soil of Sicily, Nonna embodied the warmth, generosity, and resilience of our beloved culture. Her heart, as vast as the moon, welcomed everyone with open arms, a comforting smile, and an irresistible feast upon feasts. The aroma of freshly baked bread or cookies. And the Sunday sauce, her door was always open.
Nonna's selflessness knew no bounds. She'd cook, clothe, and provide for us, often secretly, especially when Nonno wasn't looking when it came to lose change sorde speche (laughs). Her kindness and generosity inspired us to be better versions of ourselves.
As we say in Sicilian, 'A mamma è sempre 'na mamma' - A mother is always a mother. Nonna may have left us physically, but her love, wisdom, and spirit will continue to guide us.
Rest in peace, dear Nonna. Your love, your lessons, and your legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Ti vogliamo bene, Nonna." (We love you, Nonna).
