Obituary of Ziva (Jimmy) Petrov

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ziva (Jimmy) at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa, ON on July 26, 2025.  Predeceased by his father Ziva, mother Stojanka, mother-in-law Anna Szeghalmi, father-in-law Jeno Szeghalmi, sisters Biserka, Omerka, Ljubica, and nephew Ian. 

Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife Rozalia (Rose/Lola) of 59 plus years, his loving children, son Robert, daughter Cynthia (Kerry), and adored grand-daughters, Kassandra and Abbygayle.  

He will be greatly missed by his baby brother Mike (Ursula), brother-in-laws Zoltan (Cathy) Szeghalmi, Jeno (Yvonne) Szeghalmi, brother-in-law Serge Piskun, and all of his nieces/nephews/cousins and friends. 

Jimbo was loving, caring, and supportive, with a great sense of humour.  He loved and proudly attended his children's and grand-daughters sporting events and other activities.  Jimbo spent a lot of time at the family cottage in Fenelon Falls enjoying fun times and lots of laughter with his family and friends. He also loved watching international soccer games, tennis matches, hockey, folk dancing, ballroom dancing, playing poker with his friends, pool and ping-pong.   In his younger years he loved playing golf and soccer and travelling with his children and granddaughters to the Caribbean and other destinations. He always had an optimistic view on anything that arose with a practical solution and encouraged the best of everyone.  He led by example and was always active socially. 

Ziva (Deda) will never be forgotten, and his memory will be forever cherished. 

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of your choice. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 at De Stefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa L1J 0C7 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. The Funeral Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on August 2nd at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa.
