Obituary of Gwendoline Murphy

GWENDOLINE "GWEN" MURPHY 

December 31, 1933 – September 11, 2025

Daughter of the late Mary Eugene Murphy and Granville Gibson.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gwendoline Naomi Murphy, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 11th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Gwen was the beloved wife of Garnet Lynch and devoted mother to Heather, Joy-Anne, and Gray. She was the cherished grandmother to Chris, Aisha, Noah, and Aaron, and great-grandmother to Azari, Zakai, Bria, and Zaviya.

Gwen is survived by her siblings Beverly, Joan, Zelma, Hal, Marcia (sister-in-law), Everton, Fred, Gay, Grantley, Barbara, and son-in-law Derek. 

Cousins, nieces, nephews and friends: Wendy, Shirley, Ann, Philip, Halon, Gail, Andrew, June, Linda, Marjorie, Elsie, Nadia, Keisha, Salina, Diana, Matthew, Marcelle, Kirk, the entire Murphy family, Sister Doreen, Pastor Sheryl P. Turner, Myrtle, Valerie, Sarah,  Lucille, Paul, Bill, Peter, the entire Holder family and many others. Gwen was predeceased by her sisters Michelle, Jean, Margaret, and her Brother Sunbell.

Originally from Barbados, Gwen courageously came to Canada to build a better future for her family. She was an active church member, a longtime employee at the Hospital for Sick Children, and a teacher and guide to many. Gwen will be remembered for her generous heart, love of sweets, and the precious time she spent with family.

We will miss you deeply. You will forever be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at De Stefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Dr. Oshawa. Service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm, with internment to follow at Thorton Cemetery.
