Obituary for Shirley Ella Pearl Sibbald (née Irwin)

In her 88th year, Shirley Ella Pearl Sibbald passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025 at Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa.

Beloved wife of Lyle Edgar Sibbald, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late Clifford Raymond Irwin and Nora Irwin (née Steenburgh). She will be deeply missed by her loving sister Joan Cannons (predeceased Robert George Cannons).

Shirley was a devoted and proud aunt to her nieces and nephews: Pamela, Kim (Colin), Robert Bradley (Julie), Jeffrey (Karen), and Tracy (David); and a cherished great-aunt to Patricia, Jacob (April), Meaghan (Albert), Cassandra, and Matthew (Annalisa). She was also blessed with great-great nieces and nephews Jason, Delilah, Bryce, Rhett, Charlotte, and Oliver, all of whom brought her tremendous joy.

She is also remembered by her brother-in-law Joe (predeased Donna) Sibbald and their children and Lyle's cousins in Saskatchewan.

At the age of 15, Shirley began a long and dedicated 38-year career with Bell Canada, where she formed lifelong friendships and created many cherished memories. In retirement, she and Lyle enjoyed wintering in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, a place they came to love. Shirley was passionate about travel, loved to cruise the world, and was an avid reader, always enjoying a good book.

Shirley will be fondly remembered for her love of card games, casino trips, bingo, visiting with friends, and spending treasured time at Joan’s cottage with her family. Her warm spirit, humour, and generosity will never be forgotten.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa for the exceptional compassion and care provided to Shirley. A special thank you is also extended to the residents and staff at Livita Retirement Home for their kindness and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
