Obituary of Thelma Mackie

Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Thelma Irene Mackie on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Thelma was a beloved wife, an adored mother and nana, a cherished stepmother and grandma, a darling sister, a treasured aunt, and a dear friend. She was wholly devoted to her family, her loved ones, and the many precious pets who graced her life over the years.

Thelma created a warm and loving home with her husband, enjoyed a long career in a family-run business, and embraced painting and cooking during her retirement. She loved politics and CNN, decorating, and a good meal—especially when someone else was doing the cooking. She approached life with strength, compassion, and a playful sense of humour. She enjoyed her last years living in a lively home filled with people and pets, often remarking that there was “rarely a dull moment.” We know she loved it that way, and we are forever grateful to have shared those years with her. She was at peace with her life when the time came, leaving behind a legacy of grace, kindness, and love.

Thelma is predeceased by her husband, Alexander George Mackie, and her daughter, Teresa Lynn Hughes. We take comfort in knowing they are together once again.

We will gather to honour Thelma on Saturday, November 29th at De Stefano Funeral Home in Oshawa. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a service at 12:00 pm.

In Thelma’s memory, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or your local pet adoption agency.
