We cherish the many warm memories of the times we spent with Max (and Tess), both in Canada and during family visits to the Netherlands. We will miss Max’s humor, his laughter, and his kindness more than words can say, and he will always remain in our hearts.

Eulogy for Max Nelson
We remember the life of Max Nelson, our brother-in-law, a remarkable man who faced challenges in his early years with grace and love. Rather than dwell on the trials, Max chose to remember and share his favorite memories—whether it was angling for catfish or cherishing the simple joys of childhood play. He was truly an example for us all.
Max's love for his homeland, Jamaica, always shone through in his words. With his infectious grin and playful spirit, he would talk about God’s love intertwined with his admiration for Bob Marley. As he slipped into his delightful Jamaican accent, some of us might have struggled to keep up, but the warmth of his message—the importance of peace and love—was as clear as a sunlit day.
Though he may have been small in stature, Max’s character was larger than life. His passion for family and the joys of living radiated from him. He took immense pride in his daughters’ achievements, often sharing their success stories with a beaming heart. His humble beginnings were evident in the way he appreciated everyone around him, engaging with enthusiasm and genuine interest, no matter the topic.
When it came to fishing, our conversations were filled with excitement, discussing new spots to explore and the right bait to use. With a playful laugh, he often joked about the beauty of our goats and how delectable they would be on the barbecue! For Max, the connection between critters and food was a delightful thought, and he would lift his gaze upward, blessing the imagined joy of a spicy meal featuring his childhood favorites.
We will truly miss the laughter we shared and the wonderful times spent reminiscing about simpler days. Max, your spirit and joy will forever be in our hearts.

i am so glad i met Max and Tess in summer, visiting Canada. Max was a man with great sense of humor, compassion for life, friends and family. I loved his Jamaican accent (sometimes hard to understand for me) and the sparkle in his eyes when having a good time.
