Pete was the kind of guy who made every round of golf better and every friendship stronger. I’ll always remember his one liners on the course. If you were standing at the far end of the green, he’d yell out, “Can you hear me now?” If you blasted a putt past the hole, he’d shout, “Fore!” And my favorite — if I sliced my ball into the woods and wanted to go find it, he’d say, “Lassie couldn’t find that ball if it was wrapped in bacon.” He wasn’t just quick witted — he was downright hilarious. His timing, the delivery, the look on his face — that was pure Pete. He was the life of the party and a gentle giant.
Friendships can be measured by give and take, and Pete was always on the giving side. He was generous with his time, his kindness, and his willingness to go out of his way to help. Whether it was business advice or just talking things through, he showed up, every time. He was steady, solid, and real — the kind of guy you could always count on.
I rode in a golf cart with Pete well over 100 times over the last few years. We talked about many things — business, family, life, sports, and all the small things in between. Those conversations mean even more to me now. A couple of years ago, in a sincere moment, I said to him that Matthew was lucky to have him as a father. I’m grateful I said it, I meant it, and I thought he deserved to hear it.
The course will never sound the same without our friend Pete — that voice across the fairway, that laugh from the trees, those classic Pete lines. Pete touched so many lives and built so many friendships that he never walked alone here — and he never will. God bless Pete.
