Obituary of Elizabeth Kurian
In loving memory of our dear mother, Elizabeth Kurian, who passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 78.
Elizabeth was born on January 1, 1948, in Poonjar, Kerala, India, to the late Mathew Ittyavirah and the late Thresia Mathew. She was the beloved wife of the late V.M. Kurian of the Vattamkuzhythadathil family, Kuravilangad, Kerala, India.
Elizabeth's fond memories were from her time she lived in Bombay and working in Administration at Jaslok Hospital. She met her husband in Bombay and started their journey together and later settled in Kerala with her family. They were parishioners of Major Archiepiscopal Marth Mariam Archdeacon Pilgrim Church, Kuravilangad, Kerala.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her three sons: Mathew Anil Kurian (Oshawa, Canada); James Kurian (United Kingdom); and Jose Kurian (Ireland). She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Tiji, Anu, and Tessy. Loving grandmother to Diya, Riyan, Helna, Hazel, Rihan, Evan, and Eva.
Elizabeth is also lovingly remembered by her 8 siblings — 5 brothers and 3 sisters — along with relatives and friends in Kerala, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Elizabeth lived with her son Anil and family in Oshawa for over a decade after her husband passed away.
Elizabeth was a quiet, loving, and deeply faithful person who always carried a beautiful smile. She loved children dearly, especially her grandchildren, and found joy in their presence. She valued her independence and was always thoughtful and caring toward her family.
Her faith was the center of her life. She always kept her rosary and Bible by her bedside. Due to mobility challenges in recent years, she prayerfully attended daily Holy Qurbana virtually from home. Our family finds comfort in knowing that she was able to prayerfully participate in the Anointing of the Sick in the presence of her loved ones.
Though our hearts are deeply saddened, we find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with the Lord she loved so faithfully, praying for all of us with the same love and gentle smile that we will forever cherish.
“Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” — Luke 23:43
