I am so lucky to have spent my whole life in the presence of my Grammy--my fiercest protector, biggest supporter, and bestest friend. She was extremely fun, always thinking up creative ways to entertain her grandkids; stylish beyond words, with her knee-high red converse and vibrant colours; and so very cool. I was always bragging to my friends about her. My Grammy was also a damn good cook, encouraging me to be adventurous with food. I remember doing the “one-bite’ challenge,” in which we would have to try ‘one-bite’ of a new food every Friday for a reward. She used to go to local Thai and West Indian restaurants, striking up conversations with owners and asking them for cooking lessons. That’s how she was: friendly and always trying to learn something new.
Her kindness and generosity will forever remain a core memory of my childhood. She used to show up at our elementary school, every single day… two hours before classes ended, to get the closest parking spot so we never had to walk far. She would care for me when I was sick, feeding me soup whilst watching tv with me on the couch. She supported me through all of my endeavours, driving me to and fro soccer practices, listening to me sing all day long without complaint.
She was incredibly giving, with her time and her energy. Truth is, my Grammy took care of anyone in need. She put everyone else before herself, including animals. And, with an unmatched sense of humour, my Grammy radiated light and positivity. She was always trying to make me laugh.
My Grammy was the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me independence and how to love and stand up for myself. She was an unwavering rock in mine and in so many others’ lives. Growing up, she had a saying for us grandkids, “never fear, Grammy’s here.” I know that she will forever protect us with her wisdom and light.
I love you; I miss you.
- “Princess” Hannah, forever a Grammy’s girl.

Auntie Brenda was one of the best. No one else came close. The hole she leaves behind in so many lives will never be filled, She did so much for everyone who knew her, and that incredible presence and generosity will be missed. She will live in our hearts forever. Love Derek, Grace, Nicolas and Luca.

I remember Aunt Brenda fondly, a strong woman of constant kindness and generosity. Her smile would light up any room she entered, and her countenance and spirit were always bright and beautiful!! She was always so positive and pleasant and a sincere joy to be around! Every conversation was genuine and loving and sincere - you knew you were getting her heart and her mind when you spoke with her!! I will miss your shining light, Aunt Brenda, but I know you will always walk with us and be there to guide us! With sincere love, Jeannine Heron
