Martin and Stephen McDonnell McDonnell posted a condolence
Thursday, June 8, 2023
Condolences to the entire Munshaw Family from the McDonnell brothers, Marty and Stephen.
Marty was a classmate of Bobby's at St. Helen's Boy's School in the early 1960's. Both in Miss Gordon's grade one class and together for First Communion at St. Helen's Church with Monsignor O'Connor and Father Connelly with Brother Harold in close stead.
The McDonnell's lived next door to the school and we have many memories of birthday parties and lots of fun. Michael was in Stephen's class, a year younger and together celebrated the same milestones. We reflect on the Munshaw brothers as our first best friends with fond memories. We moved away in 1964 when and addition was put on to the school and our home expropriated. We have never forgotten Bobby or Michael. Please be assured of our prayers for Bobby and the entire family. Kind regards from The McDonnell brothers, Marty and Stephen.

Robert, [Bobby], Munshaw was the epitome of the definition of a "family man" and a "hero" to many, many people, some close family, and others friends or acquaintances who may have been in need of help, be it someone to lean on or someone needing a friendly ear they could talk into when nobody else would listen. Bobby was the kind of man who really cared about "the underdog" willing to help in anyway possible within his means to "fix" whatever problem existed. The photos here are of Bobby's family members attending his mother's 80th birthday celebration held in his sister's backyard, and a photo of Bobby and his brother, Michael, and sister's, Teri and Corinne.

Bob had faith and hired me as the first Environmental Compliance Manager for Direct Line in 2007. (It may have actually been to ‘get me off his back’ and stop visiting him from a Durham Regional enforcement perspective! LOL) He jumpstarted my environmental compliance career for which I am eternally grateful. So sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with the family. Take care of yourself and don’t forget to breathe.

My Uncle Bobby was a bright, bold and beautiful personality.
“Christina, you’re talking too much”, he would often joke during family gatherings, as I was a quiet and introverted child - but his ability to include everyone and make us laugh along with his brother, my Uncle Michael, is an unforgettable staple of my childhood that I will remember Uncle Bobby most by.
“That’s a funny one, Uncle Bobby”.
You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. My funny and distinctly vibrant Uncle Bobby, a man with a truly beautiful soul.
Love always, your niece who would never shut up,
Christina Cardella

I started working for Bob in 1998 when he purchased RFC I was a young inexperienced kid but Bob gave me a chance to prove myself. I am very grateful for the opportunity he gave me because that job turned into a career for me. I got my DZ license through bob and later upgraded to my AZ when the company was purchased by GFL. I learned alot from Bob over the years and i am very proud to say i was a part of G Russel Pumping and Direct Line when we changed names. Bob had a big heart and helped alot of people over the years and he will be forever missed. Rest in peace Bob and thank you for everything you done for me.

Bob was the best dance papa. When the girls were younger he was always in the waiting room talking to the dance mamas while we waited for the girls to finish dance. When they were done it was nothing but smiles and praises from papa. The love that was shared between Melayna and Bob was truly special. He was one of a kind. We are so sorry for your loss. Love, Travis, Melissa, Maddie, Lillie, and Mason Robbins

At my Grandpa Ronald’s funeral I had written a speech to share. As a young 15 year old girl I was scared to read it. My mother encouraged me to approach my Uncle Bob for help. She must of had confidence in her brother’s ability to help me. I told him of my fears of public reading, and that I was thinking of backing out. He calmingly said to me, “everyone gets scared, this is what you need to do…”
He then began directing his attention towards the crowded room and yelled “Ladies and Gentleman, may I have your attention”
It was GO time! There was no backing down from this point on. I delivered my speech that day and didn’t have all that time of worrying before the speech because he helped me to just got for it.
I will never forget that memory!
My Uncle Bob was confident and bold. He taught me to not let fear hold me back, something I’m sure we all need a reminder of. If I had let fear keep me from loving my Grandfather’s memory that day, I would have lived with regret. Don’t let fear keep you from love. Live with no regrets! He gave me a boost of confidence that day that I will never forget. I love you, Uncle Bob. I’m jealous that you get to peer into the eyes of our Jesus! What a life you get to keep on living!

When I was a child, teen or even as an adult, Bob always made me feel, loved and like family. Each visit, at his home in Pickering when I was visiting Ryan as an ackward preteen, or adult visiting Ryan at Bobs family cottage; Bob always greeted me and my children with open arms and a triple kiss on the cheek. He always made me feel so special. My eldest daughter had the pleasure of meeting Bob again as an adult at his Granddaughter’s Birthday party a couple years back while she was lifeguarding. She noticed right away his special character and charm and she recalled he still had lovely things to say about me to her, telling her how much he loved me and how much Ryan loved me. I still to this day don’t know what I did to deserve such love from him but I’m so grateful for how special he made me feel. Like one of the family. I will always be grateful for it. Glad Ryan got his sense of humour as he was always making people laugh and feel special. Ryan has his Dad to fish with now yet I know just how many people will miss how special he made people feel and all the laughs he shared with each of us. Forever in our hearts. Missed by so many.

Q: How did you meet Robert?
A: I remember first meeting Robert at Rocketship Park in Whitby. He was there playing with Melayna. We chatted as our kids ran around the playground. His immense love for his granddaughter was clear. He will be missed by his friends and family.

Over 30 years I've known Bob he always had a smile. A firm handshake an affirmation for anyone anywhere when needed. He could convince you it would all be ok. He helped people who didn't even know how much he was helping them. And he fixed things. Mended fences. Had a special kind of kindness. There will be a hole in the bucket of many people's lives with his passing. His devoted wife Janey who so gently as is her way loved and cared for him to his last breath. His daughter ever by his side and his his late son whom im sure he walks with now. His beloved grandchildren each who he held in his special light. And the extended family many who will sadly miss him on golf rounds. I said he was larger than life and that is the best description of him I can picture.

Q: What will you miss most about Robert?
A: Robert Munshaw was my beautiful brother in law. I will miss the laughter and great company he would bring to family gatherings and celebrations. He was a family man who held dear the values and morales of an exemplar father, grandfather and husband and a loving brother to his younger siblings, Michael, Corinne and Teri. I will love him forever and will remember him every time I laugh, or experience quality time with my family. Rest in eternal peace my beautiful brother in law.
