I was saddened to hear of Mr. White's passing and further saddened that I didn't hear of his funeral arrangements until after the fact.
Mr. White was a great help to me when I bought my first home. He had everything in his Home Hardware on Simcoe North and could diagnose a problem by listening to my description. He was an amazing man whom I think of each time I pass the site of his Home Hardware. Every year, I saw him at the November 11th Remembrance Day proudly standing in his uniform, and every year, he humbly accepted my deeply felt gratitude for his service.
He represented the best of an amazing generation!

To Deanna, Matt, Steve, and families,
I remember working with this lovely family at White's Home Hardware. One of my favourite things was working with the Dons when stock would come in. Don was one of my favourite people - always a hard worker, kind, full of stories, and certainly had a good sense of humour. I would always try to sneak back to work with him to enjoy his company. I learned so much! I consider it a priviledge to have known /worked with him. His life is to be celebrated and I know he will be missed by so many. Sending our love to you all, and hoping your memories will comfort you as you say goodbye to this amazing person.
With fondest memories,
Sherry Nesbitt & Cecil Thompson

Though the first connection was through the hardware store, we got to know Don more through Kingsview United church. He always had a smile and a witty comment. We loved hearing about his time overseas during the war and his on-going connection with the Dutch people, as well as his holidays down south. He and Chris were always willing to help out with ushering and their greeting made people feel welcome. Our sincere condolences to his family as you remember his life well lived.

Mr. White I had the honor of meeting you on 31st Oct 2021. I presented my first Quilt of Valour to you. It was an honor to present you a quilt but what I will always remember is you being so humble. The short time I spent with you I will always remember and cherish.

I can’t remember not knowing the White family. Don used to tell me he knew me before I was born. Don was one of my father’s best friends & they were lifelong friends having grown up together in Oshawa. They even served together in the RCD’s. Heather, Steve & Holly I’ve known you all of my life and you are like family to me. He led a good life & he was very proud of you.

Sincerest condolences to Heather and all of Veteran Don’s family members.
If the 2020 “pause” hadn’t cancelled the 75th Anniversary of the VE in the Netherlands, I may never have met Don. Instead, I had the replacement good fortune to have had a few safe outdoor visits with Don and Heather. I was privileged to not only have Don show me his WWII mementos, but to have him tell me about his WWII experienceS. I will always remember his voice (and his laugh) explaining things from his perspective. Such an a amazing man, who lived a long and full life touching many lives. Rest easy Don, you most certainly deserve it!

Heather, Holly, and Steve,
Don meant so much to the Regiment - he was a critical link to our history who represented who we were and what we wanted to be. I remember so many of his visits to Petawawa over the years - to think of him in that Staghound being driven through the Regiment, or addressing all the officers and Senior NCOs – those are memories that bring a smile to my face. Your father was such a joy to be around and had such a positive outlook on life. Know that as you and your family grieve his loss, his second family in the Royal Canadian Dragoons is also grieving. He will be so missed – our functions and events will not be the same without him.

Sending our deepest condolences to Don's family. He was one of my Dad's (Earl Fice's) favourite humans, and he held him in high regard. Don served with 2 of my Dad's older brothers in WW2, my Dad being too young to enlist at the time. I remember many trips to "White's" as a young girl in the '70s, and later White's Home Hardware, and Don would always make a point of stopping to talk to Dad, and Chris would as well.
Thank you for your service, Mr. White. Rest easy. May wonderful memories give your family comfort during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Janet (nee Fice) & Terry Hodder

On behalf of the Warriors Day Parade Council our deepest condolences to the White family on the passing of WWII RCD Veteran Don White. It was always a pleasure when he called me regarding family passes for the annual Warriors Day Parade at the CNE. It was always great to see him marching with his beloved Regiment The Royal Canadian Dragoons on Warriors Day Parade.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
