Obituary of Gloria Mae Peterkin

Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Aunt G – A life well lived.

We are honoring the beautiful, unconventional, funny, and very spiritual Gloria Mae Peterkin (nee Dodd) known to all lovingly as Aunt G who passed away on 5/18/24 surrounded by her loved ones. For her, the sky was the limit and she almost touched it.

Gloria was born on 11/26/1936 in St. Elizabeth Jamaica. After completing school her adventurous spirit took her to London, Germany, and Canada.

Gloria's journey reflects her boldness and curiosity. She embraced new experiences and cultures, leaving her mark wherever she went.

Her career in Canada began as a teacher at Centennial College teaching data entry. Her foresight in recognizing the potential of computer technology led her to open her own school. From humble beginnings, she built a thriving business, demonstrating resilience and vision.

Once retired, she began to travel again – she saw most parts of the world including the Caribbean, South America, Israel, and Croatia.

She was a vanguard with a heart of gold. She demanded the best from everyone and could not help but share her expertise! She never took No for an answer and believed that the only limits on you were self-imposed.

She loved her family! She was our hero, a great mother, aunty, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend.

She was generous – if you needed a place to stay, her door was always open with no strings attached. If you needed financial support, she was happy to provide a gift.

She was FUNNY – any time spent in her presence was filled with uproarious laughter!

May her legacy continue to inspire and uplift those who knew her.

Gloria is survived by her children, Horace Peterkin (Marlene), Karen Peterkin, and Maxine Blank (Kurt), her beloved grandchildren, Myles, Nyla and Rhys Peterkin, sister Dorothia, cousin Erold, nieces Janet, Sophia and other beloved nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the amazing staff at Hillsdale Terraces for taking such loving care of our Aunt G – their Mama G!
