Obituary of Bruno Eller

Bruno Eller, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, peacefully passed on July 8th, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife Bebe, sons Lars (Angie), Peter (Alison), and Kevin (Melissa), sister Imgard, and cherished grandchildren Bryce, Sydney, Casey, Oscar, Finn, and Harrison.

Bruno was born on March 30th, 1936, in Hamburg, Germany, and grew up during the tumultuous years of World War II. In 1956, he left Germany for Canada, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start.

Passionate about sports from a young age, Bruno excelled in soccer, playing as a goalkeeper through his teens and twenties, achieving even a semi-professional level. His athletic prowess extended to tennis, golf and even curling, with golf becoming a lifelong passion that he pursued with enthusiasm.

Despite only completing eighth grade, Bruno was a voracious reader and self-educator, devouring two novels weekly and meticulously reading the newspaper cover to cover in one sitting. His dedication to learning served as an inspiration to his family and friends, embodying his belief that hard work and determination could overcome any obstacle.

Professionally, Bruno found his niche as a Store Window Dresser in Toronto before moving to Montreal and joining Reitman's, where he dedicated over 40 years of his career. Rising to the position of Vice President of Store Planning and Design, Bruno played a pivotal role in the company's success. He was an early adopter of computer technology in store planning, pioneering the use of design software that revolutionized the efficiency of the store layout process and significantly contributed to the company's expansion.

Bruno will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his profound love for family and his passion for travel. As his oldest sons grew up and started families of their own, he delighted in visiting them in Western Canada and the United States. He also cherished his annual winter escapes to Fort Lauderdale with his beloved wife, Bebe, and youngest son, where he enjoyed golfing, reading, and relaxing. These trips also provided precious moments with his closest friend, Roger. Together, they shared laughter over martinis, played cards late into the night, and created enduring memories.

Although Bruno was often a man of few words, when he spoke, those around him listened intently, as his words carried weight and wisdom that enriched the lives of all who knew him. Those moments of wisdom, his unwavering love, and boundless kindness will be greatly missed. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
