I remember Ray up on stage at many college events and also I remember Ray as a very kind and joyful, talented, funny person.
I was happy to have a moment with your dad at a recent event where Dan was performing with his band. Ray was at the entrance at the venue, and I had a moment to say hi to Ray," Do you remember Ray you played piano and took photos at my wedding many years ago?" Ray smiled, and said. “ I got old”, and I smiled and said ”me too” funny how that happens. His smile hadn't changed.
I recall thinking It was so wonderful your dad and mom had balcony seats at the venue to witness your performance ; Dan , like your father you were on center stage telling jokes, performing music you wrote, sharing some funny photos of your early days in the band and also sharing meaningful music you wrote “ Were not broken, just well broken in”;
I first met Dan, as he was a student in a post diploma program , and I was his instructor, and then Dan became a colleague and when we had a moment at various. long,... school meetings we would find a moment to say hi , and discover at times in our personal lives we were coping with similar challenges, as my mother also was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This spring we somehow we were seated together at graduation random seating , and we shared updates about our family and how we both were providing support to our dads. My dad also passed this summer; I am grateful to have had time with him this summer. I found his Frank Sinatra record on the record player in the living room , on top our piano; my dad also always had a habit of sharing dad and then granddad jokes too, like your dad;. I hope both our dads are sharing jokes somewhere, and there is good music playing ; They are smiling and watching over us!
Take Care of yourself Dan and your family! Your dad was a great person who loved life and his spirit is strong in you and your family. Heartfelt condolences to your mother. Sincerely, Pat Mongeon

Cousin Raymond the Blomme Patriarch, story teller extraordinaire with a gregarious personality.
Ray enjoyed captivating his audience, with humor and wit. He never tired of telling stories, which seemed to get better over time.
He has left such a meaningful legacy and we have all looked up to him and celebrate his accomplishments.
We will cherish the memories while viewing our priceless Blomme picture albums and reminiscing.

Dan, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your father. Although, I never had the opportunity to meet him, knowing you for the person and professional you are (as good as they come) I am sure he was a great man. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family. I wish you strength as you navigate through this difficult journey.

As a neighbour for 25 plus years our family has great memories of Ray. Our kids marvelled at his magic tricks with a penny, we listened to his stories, often humorous and we benefited from his and Sylvia’s hospitality with their Christmas get together for the neighbours for many years where he entertained us with his piano playing. He was generous to a fault. As an example, he happily played piano for my mother inlaw’s 80th birthday celebration and refused any compensation. That was Ray.
Although we moved away several years ago we all still have great memories of Ray and will cherish them forever. Rest in peace Ray.

It really is a small world. I knew Ray for close to 40 years. He was always the gentleman and fun to be around. I can picture Ray at the piano at Durham College’s staff appreciation nights and remember too everyone’s disappointment when he stopped doing that. Dan, Ray’s son, became a colleague and friend when we taught together in the ADMH graduate program and when we both registered as psychotherapists. Dan was a key organizer for my retirement from Durham College in 2016. I learned from Ray that he taught music at Windfields Junior High School in North York before joining Durham College. To underscore the small world theme, both of my daughters attended Windfields and my wife, Ene, was a high school music teacher for 40 years. While I am saddened by his passing, my thoughts of Ray also bring a happiness and sense of joy for all the positivity that I associate with him. Ray’s photo, “Atlantic Sunrise”, has a prominent spot in our living room and when I gaze at that, I will always remember the positive, talented and fun man I had the privilege to get to know. We all love you Ray – rest in peace!

Ray and I taught in the English for Academic Purposes for International Students program many years ago. I recall his patience, kindness, and humour. Many students and colleagues benefited from Ray's wisdom. May he rest in peace.

I give my deepest condolences to Ray's family. Ray was one of my mentors (along with Ab Abolins) when I was hired by the college. I found him to be always be in a good mood and had a funny story to tell. A great teacher and friend and was loved by his students.

Although I did not have the privilege of meeting your Dad, Raymond, I am certain of his love of people living on through the accomplishments of his sons, especially those that continue to benefit so many Durham College students through you, his son, Dan. I am so sorry for your and your family's loss. Affectionately, Ann

Raymond was an amazing Uncle. He has been a constant in my life since he held me as a baby in 1959. He has had a huge positive impact on my life in ways too numerous to mention. He introduced me to music as a toddler which lead me to a career in the arts as an adult. He was incredibly generous with his time, energy and talents not only with me, but with so many others. He was fascinating, funny, strong, empathetic, and so very smart. As a portrait photographer, almost everyone in our family has a large beautiful portrait of loved ones that will last generations. He and Sylvia raised two incredible sons who have families of their own. I know that Raymond's legacy will ripple out through eternity as he touched so many lives. The world is better because he was here. I shall miss him more than words can say. Raymond, I hope you have reunited with loved ones on the other side, including my mother, your sister Madeleine who absolutely adored you. I thank you and I love you. Always, Kathy.

Ray was a valued Durham College colleague. He participated in my new faculty training in 1986, and entertained us at the piano on many occasions. I have fond memories of Ray and regret to hear of his passing. My condolences to the family.
