So saddened to hear the news about Mr. Nieuwendyk.
Such a kind man. Always had time to talk, always had a smile.
He lived life with the utmost integrity and if you could ask for any legacy to leave behind...I think that would be it.
A little story that I've never told anyone. I was about 8 or 9 and heard that this auto shop would give "those cool STP Oil stickers" if you asked. So I rode about 3 or so miles to this shop and interrupted Gord while he was working. He asked how he could help me...I was so nervous...but I asked if he had any stickers. He asked what I was going to do with it. I told him I wanted it for my bike. He reached up into a cabinet on the wall and handed me one. I placed the sticker on my bike and rode away with a huge smile and I'm confident that he turned back to his work...smiling...
My heartfelt condolences to the family...

Dear Gilbert, Rick and Joe. I guess when it rains it pours. Very sorry to hear about your Dad, especially so soon after losing Wendy. I still remember riding in the back of your Dad's Shell service truck when Gilbert broke his collar bone. It was a temporary ambulance and the lawn chair was a temporary girney. Our hearts and prayers are with you all again. Very sorry for your loss.
All the best, from Peter, Pauline Ferry and family

My condolences to the family, I worked with Gord at the old Brooklin Shell station and worked for Gord when he had his shop on Hopkins St in Whitby back in the late 70's. He taught me a lot about mechanics and was always positive about the day ahead and his smile would brighten up the shop when my day was tough. Hadn't seen him in a long time but never forgot him, rest in piece my friend you will be missed.

Rick, Gilbert & Joe,
Our deepest sympathies on Gordies passing. I know this has already been a tough start to the year but you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I have nothing but fond memories of your dad and mom during our minor hockey & lacrosse days in Whitby. They remain exceptional people who have done an outstanding job raising 4 wonderful kids to be community leaders, with another whole generation of Nieuwendyk's and Keenan's waiting in the wings..
I'm sure there will be plenty of great stories told in the coming days as family and friends gather to celebrate Gordies life.
Warmest reagrds,
John & Kim Muir and family.
