Dear Ruth and Lisa,
My sincere thoughts and sympathies are with you and your families today. Its been almost a lifetime since I enjoyed your mother’s hospitality when I lived with her and your father for almost a year. Many of the memories are as vivid as if they were yesterday.
From both of them I learned the value of industriousness and self-reliance. Your father, outside working from dawn to dusk, and your mother, making a home with no less class and expertise than Martha Stewart. I was privileged to put my legs under her table so many times.
I can still see her busying around the kitchen, so energetic and always smiling, beaming kindness and humor throughout her home. I remember her sewing room and the beautiful things she made. I remember her library and her love of books and movies. I remember her three course meals, three times a day.
But mostly I remember the affection she engendered in me with the kindness she gave. I will never forget her. She made a bigger impression on my life that she ever knew.
My thoughts are with you.
