Dear Shirley,
William has been a very dear friend for more than 47 years. We worked together on several projects at Dominion Bridge. Later we were joint-consultants on other projects. As you know, we’ve been fortunate to have been living close to you and William for many of those years so we’ve had regular contact. He has been very generous in the help he has given to me. Many people in our area have, in their garden, a stone and metal sculpture, a tree, some flowers, all thanks to the generosity of William. He was a man of great intellect and he had in-depth knowledge of many subjects. He was my best man when Michele and I were married. I think of him every day and am finding it very difficult to accept that he is no longer with us. Memories of him will live on.
Our heartfelt sympathies to you, Robert, Cynthia, Tim and to all your family.
Dave and Michele

Dear Shirley and Family - It was with great sadness that I heard the news of William’s passing. My acquaintance with him was through the Durham Woodworking Club, and he had become a personal friend that I had great respect for. He was truly a dedicated club member and he will be missed deeply. He contributed greatly to the club. He had in-depth knowledge on all aspects of woodworkers and was willing to share it with his fellow members. He had a volunteer’s heart and stepped up to the plate to help in so many ways. His last project was on a team building Turtle Basking Boxes for Central Lakes Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA). His design was adopted and used extensively. I added a few pictures to show his skill.
At this time of sorrow I pray for God’s abiding presence and sustaining strength as you journey the days ahead.

Dear Shirley, Cynthia, Robert and Tim,
We are so sorry to hear of William’s passing. We have many fond memories of times our families spent together. Doug just reminisced about the time he was digging up our septic and William came over and showed him that he was about 4 feet off and he had already dug down 6 feet. Thank you William he would have dug to China. Lol. Wonderful neighbours for 20 years. ❤️
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time. Sending hugs.
The Barnes,
Lana, Doug, Jennifer and Brianna.

Dear Tim,
We are so sorry to hear of your sad news - such a loss.
Reading about your father leaves one thinking that he was truly a renaissance man. Not only was he a man of intellect but a person who used this gift to pursue his interests in the arts and science. His photo in his obituary strikes one of a vibrant, independent, man.
Tim, we are sorry for your loss and its tragedy to your family.
Warmest personal regards,
Jenifer and Rob.

My deepest condolences to the family. I didn't know William all that well but I worked at Dominion Bridge with him and I know he was highly respected and appreciated. Even if he had no clue who I was, we met on several occasions at DB Christmas get-togethers. It always struck me that he was so poised, so gentle, and so unassuming, but the moment you spoke to him, you knew this man was highly intellectual on many levels. Too bad I never got to know him more than I did, surely my loss. And your gain for having had him in your lives; I'm sure you're all better for it.
