Its after the fact I know but I thought I would share a memory anyway. Wow its been years since the last time I ran into Paul. He was larger than live and a ball of energy for sure. We were class mates at Pearson CI and we were a Defensive back pair for the Scarborough Chargers Football Club way back during the high school days. Paul had that long flaming red hair, like Mike and he would say as we lined up " I'll go high, you go low". Time passes. RIP old friend

The last time I saw Paul was at a pub in Scarbrough a few short years back. I had not seen him for a good 20+years so it was a happy surprise/reunion.
It was karaoke by day and our band performing at night as I recall.
Paul decided he was going to do his rendition of " Won't get fooled again" by The Who. He did it with bravado with confidence with showmanship and he did it all completely out of tune. His tone was more consistent with wolves howling at the moon than it was singing. He delivered the performance complete with the Roger Daltry stomp. He had us in stitches we were all having a laugh at his expense, and all the while he was in on the joke.
At the end of the night before tear down we were standing by my drums, talking and he mentioned that he hadn't played for a while, so I let him have a go on the kit. It was like watching a kid in a candy store. You could tell that the people working were getting impatient because it was closing time but he kept going. I shared his joy in that moment and did not want him to stop. I did not want it to end just like he didn't want it to end. That was a moment I was happy to extend especially knowing what I know now.
I never would have known that would be the last time I would see him.
Paul was a great guy on many levels. There are family members and closer friends that could list all the reasons why he was great. But I can safely say he was amazing simply because he carried with him the O'Connor gene.
Anyone who has met and spent any time with that beautiful family, knows that indelible truth.
Rest in peace Paul.

To our dear friend Paul and family, for comfort and healing to shine down on you for peace to lighten your path. And all of us friends say a prayer that you feel his love and presence with you now and forever. Keep that smile and laughter, you know the one that always made us bust a gut. You were upside down on your head drinking a beer. So funny! Well this one’s for you pal! ... cheers! Straight up. Hearts and thoughts, love Terry and Randy Semenak, Julie Frederick and Nola Bradley. GOD BLESS
