Lafontaine, Guy Jean.
Guy died suddenly on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in Toronto. He was born on May 28, 1947 in Windsor, Ontario to Norman Lafontaine and his war bride Julia Brands. Until his 16th birthday Guy spent several weeks each year at Shriners Hospital in Montreal. When he graduated from University of Waterloo he became a science teacher in Durham Region where he taught at Eastdale and Anderson Collegiates. In 1987 he was appointed Computer Consultant/Facilitator for the Durham Board of Education where he introduced computers to students and teachers for the next twelve years. He also taught evening courses for York, Trent, Queen’s and Niagara Universities. He became Vice-Principal at Pickering High School and retired in 2002 as Vice-Principal of Grove School.
In 1972 Guy married Mary Patricia Noonan and they had three children – Justin (Mary), Kathleen (Paul) and Andrew. Mary Pat died in 1993. In 1999 Guy married Roberta Wood and became stepfather to Sarah, Jacob (Marj) and Callum (Violet) Quigley. Guy was a proud Grandpa to his eleven grandchildren.
Guy will certainly be missed by his in-laws Pat (Caroline) and Mike (Sheila) Noonan and Alan, Carolyn and Diane Wood. He was predeceased by his sister Eloise.
Guy’s funeral will be on Tuesday, September 12. Visitation will be 11:00 – 12:30 at DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Dr., near Oshawa Airport. At 1:00 Mass will be held at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, 130 Watford St., Brooklin, followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery at 355 Taunton Road East, Whitby.
In lieu of flowers Guy would have appreciated donations to Shriners Hospital, West Park Healthcare Centre or any foodbank.
