My sincere sympathies to the family and friends Merv has left behind. I was in high school with Shannon and always felt welcome in their home. He was quiet and patient and kind with us freaky teens invading his space and driving us downtown. He had a great sense of humor too. He couldn't stop laughing over the saying "The lunatics have taken over the asylum" perhaps because it mirrored his life with all of us hanging around all the time. :)
He was a gentle soul and he will be missed. RIP Merv.

I knew Mr. McDonough when I was in high school, and I spent so much time at his home.
He was always so kind, and so welcoming. He was quiet, but he was also funny.
My fondest memory of him was December 5, 1992. I still have the ticket stub!
His son Patrick and I went to a concert in Toronto, and accidentally missed the last train back to Brampton.
Mr. McDonough came downtown to Toronto in the middle of the night to pick us up and bring us home.
He wasn't angry, maybe just a bit tired and mildly annoyed, but he never showed it!
He just wanted us home safely, and that was all the mattered.
All these years later, and I have always thought of him with such fondness.
He was truly a great man, and I hope that he is reunited with his two children that sadly went before him.
I am sending the entire family so much love.

My condolences to Merv's family. I was in High School with Merv (we always knew him as Merv. He was my lab chemistry partner in Gr 12. We went to the same parish church, Friday eve dances, summer beach parties. Only fond memories of Merv.

Our most sincere condolences to the McDonough family. Mr. McDonough was always so funny and kind to us, even though we were a bunch of crazy teenagers! Many, many years ago, I remember calling the McDonough house at 4am and apologizing profusely for calling at such an ungodly hour, but my water had broke, and the twins were on their way, and Sean was at their house with Patrick. Mr. McDonough was so calm and sweet to me in that moment, and he made sure that he got Sean & Patrick to the hospital in good time. This is a memory that we will always cherish. RIP Mr. McDonough

My sincerest condolences to Merv's family. We lived one block away from each other - he on Foren Street and me on McIntyre Street across from the court house. We became good friends at Scollard along with many other guys. I am saddened by this news.
Take care and be well.

Merv was one of the kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He was always welcoming us into his home with a big smile. I used to love watching him and Patrick interact together their banter was always amusing and hilarious making visits to the house that much more fun. I will never forget the way Merv helped me with a very difficult situation in my teen years, he was incredibly supportive and gave me not only the guidance and direction I needed, but he also gave me the courage to follow through. Another great person gone too soon.

I considered Merv my best friend in high school. He was always fun to be with and we shared many adventures that we hoped our parents would never find out about. He was a leader in our mock band “The Odds and Ends” and though we were never drinkers we had many group adventures like picnic and fire fly chasing with as many girls and guys as we could fit into my old mostly broken car. Merv was fearless, kind, funny, honest and always helpful and though we grew apart during so many years he has always been an example of what a true friend could be.

I have know Merv since I was about 14 years old. I was one of his daughters Lisa's best friend. I have many fond memories of Merv as I was around their house a lot. He was such a kind, calm man and had a lot of patience for us teenagers. A memory that stands out is when he took us downtown Toronto to buy Duran Duran concert tickets before his shift at 6am. Merv and Marg also welcomed me for many Christmas Eve's with them. I will always cherish those times. RIP Merv with Lisa and Patrick. Brenda
