Obituary of Patrick Mervin McDonough
Patrick Mervin McDonough (75) passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones after a sudden and unexpected illness.
Born July 16, 1949, to Florence and Patrick J, he spent his young life in Timmins and later moved to North Bay Ontario where he played football and hockey and attended Scollard Hall high school.
He worked as a stationary engineer in Timmins and in 1974 he joined the Toronto Police force. Over his 30 year career as an officer, he was recognized for his service, received many letters of appreciation and was known for his kindness, gentle demeanour and ability to speak to anybody and make them feel heard and at ease.
Touched by everyone who knew him, he loved the outdoors, fishing and swimming. He was a great story-teller, a giver of wise and thoughtful advice and had the ability to make everyone around him feel safe. A loving husband and father, brother and grandfather, a sweet, selfless man who gave all he could to those he loved, he will be dearly missed.
Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Florence, his daughter Lisa, and his son Patrick. Survived by his wife Doreen, his daughter Shannon and his step daughter Natasha, (Jay’R), his sisters Doreen (LeahAnne, Craig, Brett) and Irene (Joe, Cory, Caren), and his grandchildren Riley, Mackenzie, Olivia, Caleb, Jaxson and Christine, as well as his former wife Margaret.
Services will be held at De Stefano Funeral Home 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa Ontario. Visitation Thurs Aug 29, 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral Fri Aug 30, 12pm.
Traditional funeral attire not required. Please feel free to come dressed in a way to celebrate Patrick Mervin’s life.
