Perry, William Brendan (1955-2024)
It is with great sadness that the family of William Brendan Perry (Pops) announce his passing on November 1, 2024, with his wife by his side and at home after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Bill was the son of the late Brendan and Helen (O’Leary) Perry. Bill was predeceased by brothers Wayne (Pam) and Don ( Barb).
Bill will be lovingly remembered by Susan, the love of his life; his two daughters, Sarah (Charles) and Emily (Chris) and his beloved grandchildren; Ellie, Lucien, Nicolette, William and Charlie. Bill leaves behind , brothers; David, Ken (Alison) and sister Brenda (Doug Alteen) and father-in-law Al Greer, brother in-laws; Richard (Liz), John (Agnes) and Mike (Shannon). He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Bill began his career as an educator in his home province of Newfoundland and in Nova Scotia, before moving to Oshawa, Ontario. He enjoyed many successful years as a teacher, vice principal and principal with the Durham Catholic District School Board. An avid sports fan, Bill coached many school teams over the years and had a positive impact on students, colleagues and communities where he worked.
Bill’s greatest love besides his family and his role as Grampie, was the game of golf. He was blessed to have many golfing buddies from his years as a member of several clubs, especially his friends at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club. Bill will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, quick wit and sense of humour.
In honor of Bill’s final wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Durham Region Cancer Centre or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Ho and the Palliative Care team for their care and support.
